Vintage Lighting Covets

Here at Maeve, we get chills down our spine when we find that perfect chandelier that ties the whole space together, and major bonus points when that lighting is vintage! And while there definitely is a lot to sort through when sourcing vintage lighting, finding that perfectly imperfect Jean Royere sconce or an authentic Stilnovo sconce, is well worth the time and effort digging through pages and pages of options. Take a peek at some of our favorite covets and what we look for when sourcing vintage lighting below!

To some, sourcing vintage lighting can be very intimidating. I mean, afterall, lighting and wiring standards have come quite a long way since the early 1900's, so here's a few helpful tips to consider during your next lighting haul. Consider purchasing from a reputable resale vendor. A few of our favorites are 1st Dibs, Cherish and Obsolete. Vendors like these provide not only a peace of mind with authenticity, but they also stand behind the products being sold on their websites. Another important detail to explore is whether the wiring is original or if it has recently been re-wired. If that perfect find hasn't been rewired in the last century, there are an abundance of specialists that can rewire it for you and oftentimes, they can even UL certify it. Our last little trick of the trade is to suggest up-close photos of the metal and any tarnish or patinae that may have developed over time. Sellers are usually eager to earn your business and happily provide additional photos, so you can feel assured and happy with your purchase!
