A dated Spanish home reworked with openness, stronger architecture, and a softer European sensibility.

Project No. 5239 began as a dated Spanish-style home with low ceilings, disconnected rooms, and a floor plan that limited daily function. Maeve Design Collective reshaped the home with improved circulation, more intentional architectural focal points, and a quieter Santa Barbara-inspired point of view.

The kitchen was fully reimagined to feel more open, functional, and architecturally connected to the rest of the home. A pitched A-frame ceiling with exposed beams became the defining feature of the space, bringing height, warmth, and a stronger sense of character to a room that had previously felt closed in.

Low ceilings and disconnected spaces made the original home feel more compressed than inviting. By reshaping ceiling lines and strengthening architectural focal points, the home gained a better sense of openness and movement while still honoring its Spanish-style foundation.

Oversized closets were converted into a functional mudroom and additional ensuite bathrooms, turning underused square footage into spaces that better support daily life. These changes helped the home function more generously without losing the character and charm of the original architecture.

The existing primary bathroom was made up of multiple rooms that did not function as well as they could. Maeve Design Collective re-planned the space into a more intuitive wellness retreat, improving the layout while creating a calmer, more considered experience for everyday routines.
